A groundbreaking road project in Dubai is set to dramatically reduce travel time to Sharjah, slashing it to a mere 12 minutes.

Dubai and Sharjah, two bustling cities in the United Arab Emirates, are about to become even more connected thanks to an ambitious road project. The Garn Al Sabkha Street Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project, recently awarded by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to revolutionize travel between the two cities by slashing the travel time to just 12 minutes. With a substantial budget of AED 374 million ($102 million), this infrastructure endeavor is set to make a significant impact on the daily lives of commuters and residents.

The project encompasses the construction of four bridges spanning a distance of 3 kilometers. These bridges are designed to accommodate a staggering capacity of 17,600 vehicles per hour, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of traffic between Dubai and Sharjah. By creating a seamless connection between the prominent Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, and Al Asayel Street, the project aims to enhance the overall transportation network and reduce congestion on key routes.

Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its role in improving the Garn Al Sabkha Street Corridor. This corridor acts as a vital link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The primary objective of the project is to streamline traffic movements and reduce travel distances by a remarkable 40%.

Once completed, the improved road infrastructure will result in a substantial reduction in travel time for motorists. Commuters traveling from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in the direction of Al Qusais and Sharjah will experience a significant decrease in their peak-hour journey, from 20 minutes to a mere 12 minutes. Furthermore, vehicles traveling from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road in the direction of Jebel Ali Port will witness a remarkable 70% reduction in travel time, with the journey shortened from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes.

This transformative project is a testament to Dubai’s commitment to continuously enhance its transportation infrastructure and provide its residents and visitors with a seamless travel experience. By investing in cutting-edge road projects, Dubai solidifies its position as a global hub for innovation and urban development. The improved connectivity between Dubai and Sharjah will undoubtedly facilitate economic growth, strengthen social ties, and enhance the overall quality of life for individuals traveling between these two vibrant cities.
