A 17-year-old teenager who stole a motorbike from a delivery rider in Dubai and then set it on fire has been placed under the supervision of his family as part of a judicial probation arrangement.

The Juvenile Court in Dubai heard how the delivery rider had parked his motorbike outside a restaurant, carelessly leaving the key in the ignition as he went inside to collect an order. Seizing the opportunity, the 17-year-old boy, along with a partner who faced legal action in the Dubai Misdemeanour Court, took the motorbike and took it for a ride before ultimately setting it ablaze.

Bashaer Al Hammadi, Assistant Chief Prosecutor, revealed that the two individuals, whose nationalities were not disclosed, were apprehended after authorities connected two matching accounts of the theft and the subsequent burning of the motorcycle.

In the course of the legal inquiry, the defendants confessed to stealing the motorbike.

Due to his status as a minor, the 17-year-old was placed on judicial probation by the court. During this time, a dedicated social worker monitored his progress over a span of several months.

Significantly, the teenager demonstrated improved relations with his family during the probationary period and responded positively to guidance and support. Recognizing this positive development, the court decided to transfer responsibility for his supervision to his family.

The prosecutor, Bashaer Al Hammadi, remarked that the advancements made by the teenager and his family were instrumental in the Juvenile Court’s decision to replace the judicial assessment measure with the arrangement of placing the minor under his family’s care.

The incident underscored the importance of family oversight and the role it plays in nurturing responsible conduct among young individuals, she emphasized.

In conclusion, the 17-year-old’s case, involving the theft and arson of a motorbike, led to a judicial probation period during which his family supervision improved significantly.
